How WebPeople Doubled Online Sales for One of its Customers (Press Release)

10/24/2007 2p.m. Press Release

How WebPeople Doubled Online Sales for One of its Customers

A couple months ago, I received a call from a potential customer (I’ll refer to him as John). John had questions about our custom video product and service regarding cost, implementation time(s), etc. the standard questions we usually receive.

It turns out that John’s company sold global positioning tracking devices that are used by companies with a fleet of vehicles (i.e. taxi company, laundry service, trucking, etc.).

John had a website that looked very professional and wondered if our technology could be implemented without re-arranging and without re-designing his current website. After I told John that there would be no change (other than adding 2 lines of code into his current html), he was ecstatic.

John’s online sales were doing “ok” and he wanted something that would differentiate his company and website from his competitors. We were the perfect solution for his problem.

John’s goal was to increase sales and to help his customers further understand his product line via his website. His telephone service would receive many calls asking about his products and his telephone service wasn’t educated enough to help “close” the prospect due to high turnover and lack of product knowledge.

After listening to John’s goals, we both agreed to place a greeter video as well as a product education video onto his website. The greeter video would be used to welcome a visitor to the website and the product education video would be used to describe a specific product (the highest selling and most frequently asked about product).

The scripts were made (with help from our script writing experts) and the production was shot. John chose one of our actors (from our “stable” of over 100), Mark. Mark read the scripts flawlessly; and our production team encoded and optimized the video (for use on the internet). We sent the code to John’s web development team and they inserted the code into the body of their website html.

We then assisted John in placing the video using our PlayMetrix software that is included with our service. The PlayMetrix software allows our customers to not only place the video anywhere they want it to go, but also allows them to see how frequently the video is being presented and see the average length of time the video is being viewed. There are some cookie options (for returning customers) that can be established with PlayMetrix as well.

We followed up with John 30 days after his videos were placed onto his site. He was very happy and unfortunately hadn’t broken down his e-commerce sales numbers yet. About 60 days later I received a call from John who was extremely excited and wanted to purchase 8 more videos. It turns out that John had reviewed his website sales numbers and had seen that his sales had not only increased, they had doubled.

He had tons of praise for our product and insisted that we help him create product specific videos for his remaining offered products on his website. He chose to use Mark to keep the same spokesperson throughout his site.

John mentioned that the potential customers who now call (after placing WebPeople onto his site) are less prone to ask questions and are ready to buy. By having Mark explain his products (individually), the customer is informed and ready to buy. His telephone service spends less time on the phone which also saves him money.

John calls regularly to thank us for how we have helped his business grow. He has referred several of his friends (who participate in e-commerce) who have also reaped the benefits of WebPeople.

Increase your sales by using video

Text and graphics are only able to convey the message(s) that a website visitor feels like reading or looking at (specific user chosen content). Video is different. Video will capture the visitors attention and convey your message much more effectively.

Website visitors are becomming much more apt to watch a video as they get tired from reading day and night on the internet. Video can be looked at (by a website visitor) as a "break" from them doing the work. They can turn their speakers up, sit back, and relax while watching the video.

A video can greet, guide, educate, or sell to a website visitor.

We have found, depending on the goal of the video, that a short video 30-45 seconds is watched to completion much more frequently than videos over a minute in length. This statistic is from greeting and guiding videos. Product education/demonstration videos, which are usually longer, are watched entirely because the user has opted to "learn more" and devote their time and attention to the longer video.

We have had numerous clients who have increased their sales, conversions, and click thru rates (as well as report that their visitors are staying on their site longer) after adding WebPeople to their site.
